Methodology
Market Viability is a 0 to 100 score built from five inputs with fixed weights. Every other number on the site is a sourced figure or a simple ratio of two sourced figures.
Composite
Market Viability
| Input | Weight |
|---|---|
| attendancePct Average attendance divided by venue capacity, capped at 100%. | 30% |
| resalePremium Average resale price divided by average face value, minus one. | 25% |
| valuationCagr Compound annual growth of reported franchise valuation over the last five seasons. | 20% |
| metroPopulation Population of the team's metropolitan area. | 15% |
| payrollEfficiency 1 at payroll exactly equal to the cap, falling linearly to 0 at 50% above or below. | 10% |
Each input except payroll efficiency is min-max scaled to 0..1 within the team's league. The weighted sum is multiplied by 100 and rounded. Scores compare teams within one league, not across leagues.

Simple metrics
- Attendance % of capacity
- Average reported attendance / listed capacity.
- Resale premium
- Average secondary-market price / average face value, minus one.
- Payroll vs cap
- Team payroll / league salary cap. For MLB we use the competitive balance tax threshold.

Sourcing rules
- Every number stores a source name, a source URL and a retrieval timestamp.
- Third-party figures read "reported by" their publisher.
- Only admins can write data. Each ingest is logged on the sources page.

Sample data
Until real ingestion runs, the site shows fictional teams named "Sample Team 01 (NBA)" and so on, each marked Sample data. Their figures come from a deterministic generator scaled to plausible league ranges. They describe no real team.
